Advent was a natural choice for John and Marilyn Gilbert when they moved into the area in 2010. They personally knew about Pastor Jerry and Ann Anderson’s legacy at Advent. They trusted that they would be renewed and challenged in their faith journey through worship, study and fellowship. They asked if they could join and immediately became part of the Pastor-led Wednesday morning Bible Study group.
Marilyn shared that she and John have been involved in nearly every aspect of congregational life. “It was obvious to us that many had come before us to build, to care for, and to work together to ensure that Advent was here so that we, and others, could come.” She stated that it is important that a congregation not only cares for its own but is engaged in mission beyond its doors, and Advent does that well.
Generosity lessons were taught to Marilyn by her parents who were generous in their love for family and their commitment to their church. She heard them discuss church membership responsibility and doing more when others couldn’t. “I make Advent a priority in my charitable giving because Advent receives no funds from outside sources. It’s just us. There isn’t any other place I can make the impact I do than here. It is absolute joy knowing I make a difference when I give freely and generously to my church.”
Marilyn hopes that Advent’s giving exceeds all expectations, so that we can grow in ways we can hardly imagine. “I want us to do more than just exist. I want us to be strong financially so that we thrive. I want us to continue to help those who are less fortunate. Most of all, I want this to be a place where our children are a priority and we have a facility that meets all needs.”
We all are members by choice and we all have the opportunity to help Advent thrive in the future. Thank you for your generosity and for making Advent a priority with your gifts.
