Faith & Paint

Last July, Anthony Cutler, along with over 15,000 youth from around the country, joined together in New Orleans for the ELCA Youth Gathering. The theme, “Created to Be”, inspired the young people to be their brave, free, authentic, disruptive, and discipling selves. They worshiped together, volunteered in the community, and explored the city.

Anthony enjoyed making new friends, listening to the Christian bands that performed, and helping renovate an old church in the neighborhood. Hisgroup learned to work together while they painted and cleaned. On a day off from service work, they explored the city that included walking down Bourbon Street, which Anthony said, “smelled so bad!” The youth also took a Bayou boat tour and saw lots of alligators up close. The ELCA gathering focused on sharing the love of Christ and knowing that we are all accepted by God.

Growing up at Advent, Anthony’s faith has been strengthened through many experiences. He was baptized here, attended church school and VBS, and has volunteered by helping with the service as an usher, communion helper, reader, and special music. He attended summer camp at Camp Wapo and Green Lake.

Anthony keeps busy after school by playing lacrosse, hockey, and piano. He works as a lifeguard and lacrosse referee and volunteers with the Unified Club at Champlin High School, a group committed to spreading inclusion in the community.

Anthony shared that the people of Advent are accepting of everybody.“Advent has helped strengthen my faith through inclusiveness and kindness.”

Your generosity of time and gifts at Advent help grow the faith of our young people. Thank you for your support as we continue to encourage our youth.
